Event overview
Get your coats, gloves and hats ready to head to Cleveland in January for some epic winter birding. This will be a great way to start your year list off right. There are many birding opportunities even in the colder months- from sorting through thousands of gulls for a rarity or two to the diversity of waterfowl in and around Lake Erie. There is even the chance to see owls that come down from their northerly homes and set up shop in Ohio, especially along the lakefront.
We will head out to parks along Lake Erie in search for any rarities that might be around, all while taking in the huge number and diversity of wintering birds, which can be a spectacle this time of year. Cleveland generally hosts rare and uncommon winter visitors
and we will certainly prioritize those. Some are listed below.
Target species
Northern Saw-whet Owl
Snowy Owl
Glaucous Gull
Iceland Gull
Harlequin Duck
Scoters - Black, Surf, White-winged
Common Redpoll
