Growing Wild

The animals aren't the only things growing wild at the Zoo. From the vegetables we grow for our Great Apes to the beautiful blooms in the rose gardens, the Zoo is full of leaves and flowers of all shapes and sizes. Race to fill your plant BINGrOw card and create some one-of-a-kind leaf art, all while discovering some of the amazing plants at the Zoo and how important they are to the animals that live here and the wild animals you can find at home!

Animals have behaviors for everything from finding food to interacting with each other! Keeping animals happy and healthy at the Zoo is a full-time job. See how our staff creates enrichment, trains the animals for health check-ups, and designs exhibits for natural behaviors of the animals.

Photo Safari Camp

Get your cameras ready! Learn about animals from the view through a lens. Go on safari throughout the Zoo to discover the stunning creatures and their best qualities all while taking pictures. Learn some tips and tricks on the best way to shoot photos. Meet the Zoo's photographers and even take a picture home.

*The Zoo will have iPads for kids to use to take pictures.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a zookeeper? Find out all the basics of Zoo keeping and how our keepers take care of animals every day. You will get the chance to clean exhibits and make diets. Even go behind the scenes! This camp will include at least 2 behind the scenes experiences, 2 exhibit cleaning experiences and one keeper talk.

Below are just a few of the experiences section B offers. Section A and B will have different activities.

Leaders of the Pack Camps for 10-15 year olds:

Camp run 9:00am-3:00pm on M, T, and F. Overnight 6pm Wed-10am Thurs.

Leaders of the Pack

Challenge yourself in this camp all about being a leader!Learn leadership skills, hear from some of our very own ZooTeens, and help to inspire guests. Try our Ariel Adventure Course and create your very own video for a Zoo animal. Campers will spend the night in one of our buildings! Camp runs 9:00am-3:00pm (M, T, F) Overnight Adventure (W 6pm- Th 10am)

*Adventure Course will take place on Friday. A release form for this will need to be filled out and given to the camp teacher by Thursday in order for the campers to participate.

Bird Camp Summer Camp


Bird Camps for 10-15 year olds:

Bird Camp

Soar through summer as we introduce fun and interactive activities about our feathered friends, birds. Join our resident ornithologist as we learn how to use binoculars, identify local species, migrate like a bird and build a nest. Enjoy dissecting owl pellets, exploring the park, stepping into the world of our bird keepers and visiting some of the area’s best birding spots.

*This camp goes off-grounds. An Itinerary will be provided.

Saving Species Summer Camp


Saving Species Camps for 10-15 year olds:

$375 members $425 non-members

Saving Species

Zoos help animals all around the world, but especially right around our home area of Ohio. Dive into the cool conservation projects the Zoo staff has worked on including turtles, snakes, butterflies and more. Join our Conservation staff out in the field trapping, measuring and tagging turtles. As an added bonus, some of the days will include fishing. Anglers play an important role in helping to preserve our natural areas. Fishing poles and bait will be provided.

*This camp goes off-grounds to Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge or Magee Marsh and multiple parks in the Toledo area. An Itinerary will be provided and a child transport waiver will need to be filed out and given to the camp teacher on Monday morning.

Junior Ornithologist Summer Camp


Junior Ornithologist for 10-15 year olds:

Junior Ornithologist

Step into your birding shoes and walk the path of a bird nerd. Take your bird skills to the next level as we learn how to use bird guides, identify bird songs, discuss conservation efforts and visit some of the area’s best birding spots. Join our resident ornithologist as we use the tools of the trade to help identify birds from knowing their features to learning their songs. *This camp goes off-grounds. An Itinerary will be provided.
